The earliest known stained glass known is Saxon (7th century, Jarrow), and the making of it was regarded as a mystery.

Evidence of glass making, however, has been found in Egypt from as far back as 400 BC.

It was a source of wonder that the basest of natural materials, earth or sand could be transformed into a wonderful translucent substance, capable of repelling the weather and yet admitting light.

During the Middle Ages, the cost of glass would have been exorbitant, and coloured glass would have been an even more valuable commodity.

All our panels are made using the same techniques passed down the ages and as you can see examples from hundreds of years ago, they are very long lasting. The techniques used, such as firing and hand painting the glass gives a completely different finish to an otherwise lacklustre piece of glass.
